The Value Of Raised Beds to Gardeners

The success of beautiful and blooming garden always starts with a nice soil. The growth rate of plants is much higher because of the minerals and other elements that they get from the soil directly. But, not all ground have good soil. One solution that these gardeners do to still get that nice and healthy growing plants is to have a raised bed garden. The basic idea of having a raised bed garden is to stop battling against poor soil conditions, instead, you could build above ground where you have absolute control over the soil texture and ingredients. These gardens can be contained using a stone or a wood structure to keep the bed intact or they can be more free form, with soil and amendments merely piled several inches high.

Aside from the fact that gardeners will be able to avoid the issue in poor soil, raised beds has several advantages too. First and most important among the advantages is the increased in productivity. Raised beds are more productive per square foot because plants can be spaced more closely together. This is because you don't need to leave spaces to walk through and you don't need to ever step on the garden bed again. Raised garden beds are at least twice as productive as conventional garden. Another benefit of these raised beds, is that they get warmer faster than the soil at ground level, meaning that the growing season is extended. They can also drain excess water away effectively, although they can dry out easily if not watered regularly. They are more cost effective, since they can be build using scrap materials. Lastly, is that they are kind to your back because you don't have to be working at ground level.

Knowing all of these advantages, more gardeners are now turning into raised bed gardening instead of the conventional ones. It is not that bad to at least try something new and explore new techniques in growing your own plants at home. You can at least compare notes which is more effective or works best for you and the success of your garden.
