Choosing Flowers for Window Boxes 101

Gardening in raised beds has been practiced during colonial times and became popular among home vegetable growers. In parts of the world with greater population densities or less tillable land, gardening in beds is still the norm.

What are raised bed gardens?
Raised bed gardens are ideal solutions for gardeners who are having soil problems. The basic idea of raised bed is battling the poor soil condition by building a flower box garden above the ground. It is an elevated box garden on top of your native soil. Thus, allows the gardeners to have absolute control over the soil texture and ingredients.

Raised GardensAdvantages of Raised Bed Gardening
1. Improve soil condition
2. Water conservation
3. No soil compaction – The soil in raised beds doesn't get compacted, because they are constructed with accessibility in mind. Nobody can create such destruction of the soil because everyone is aware of the elevation and the structure created.
4. Hassle free – Raised bed gardens require less maintenance than the conventional garden beds.

Aside from raised beds, another option of growing indoor gardens is by utilizing different types of window boxes. If you are living in a condominium unit or apartment that doesn’t have any available backyard, window boxes would be the best solution.  One of the most innovative type of flower window box is the PVC window box which is low in maintenance and hold paint for 15-20 years without fading. Window boxes can be made out of wood, vinyl, PVC, or metal. Bare in mind that each material has its pros and cons. By knowing what look you're trying to achieve or if you are choosing depending on your budget its up to you to decide which product will best fit your needs.

We all can choose of what additive structure to install in our house. And each has their own creative way of making our home the best place to live in. Besides, we are the end users, so having window boxes, planters, raised bed gardens and conventional garden beds would be great so long as we are happy with it.
